How to read a certificate of analysis

Read a peptide COA in context: check the sample reference, method, units, report date and access link before drawing conclusions.

IDENTIFY

Start with the sample and the report.

Check the laboratory sample reference, material description and lot information against your records. Then check the report identifier and issue information. Two documents that mention the same lot are not necessarily the same report.

INTERPRET

Read the result beside the method and units.

A reported value needs the test description, reporting basis and relevant notes. Ask the laboratory about unfamiliar terms. Do not treat a missing test as completed or assume that one result establishes a different characteristic.

RETRIEVE

Use the issued document, not just a screenshot.

Read the complete report from its laboratory-provided location. An active report QR code in this system opens the associated PDF directly. Compare the identifier in the document with the report you intended to retrieve.

ASK

Clarify limitations and revisions.

Ask about any limitation that changes how the result should be used. Where a report has been corrected, request the relevant revision information. Treat the certificate as documentation of a defined sample and scope, not a blanket product endorsement.
